煤層氣是指儲存在煤層中以甲烷為主要成分、以吸附在煤基質(zhì)顆粒表面為主、部分游離于煤孔隙中或溶解于煤層水中的烴類氣體，是煤的伴生礦產(chǎn)資源，屬非常規(guī)天然氣，是近一二十年在上崛起的潔凈、優(yōu)質(zhì)能源和化工原料。
Coalbed methane refers to the hydrocarbon gas stored in coal seams, mainly composed of methane, adsorbed on the surface of coal matrix particles, partially free in coal pores or dissolved in coal seam water. It is an associated mineral resource of coal and belongs to unconventional natural gas. It is a clean, high-quality energy and chemical raw material that has emerged internationally in the past decade or two.
煤層氣還有另外一個名字叫做，叫做“瓦斯”，煤層氣在行業(yè)發(fā)展還是相當(dāng)不錯的。

全球煤層氣儲量達268萬億立方米，目前已有74個國家發(fā)現(xiàn)蘊藏有煤炭資源，其中90%的煤層氣分布在12個產(chǎn)煤國家，儲備量前五的國家分別是：俄羅斯、加拿大、、美國和澳大利亞。的煤層氣儲備量位于世界第三，達31.46萬億方。

The global reserves of coalbed methane amount to 268 trillion cubic meters. Currently, 74 countries have discovered coal resources, with 90% of coalbed methane distributed in 12 coal producing countries. The top five countries with reserves are Russia, Canada, China, the United States, and Australia. China's coal bed methane reserves are the third largest in the world, reaching 31.46 trillion cubic meters.
煤層氣主要是煤化作用過程晚期的產(chǎn)物，由于埋藏較淺或者受到晚期抬升作用的影響，次生生物氣的混入較普遍。受賦存狀態(tài)控制，盆地內(nèi)煤層氣具有向斜分布特征；受煤層發(fā)育地質(zhì)時代和沉積環(huán)境控制，煤層氣主要分布于石炭紀(jì)以來的沉積地層，主要包括石炭系—二疊系、三疊系—侏羅系、白堊系—古近系；受煤層區(qū)域分布和埋藏控制。
Coalbed methane is mainly a product of the late stage of coalification process. Due to shallow burial or the influence of late uplift, the mixing of secondary biogas is more common. Controlled by its occurrence state, coalbed methane in the basin exhibits a synclinal distribution characteristic; Controlled by the geological age and sedimentary environment of coal seam development, CBM is mainly distributed in the sedimentary strata since the Carboniferous, mainly including the Carboniferous Permian, Triassic Jurassic, Cretaceous Paleogene; Controlled by the regional distribution and burial of coal seams.
不同開發(fā)主體眼中，煤層氣被賦予不同的意義。煤炭企業(yè)從安全角度、油氣企業(yè)則從清潔能源的角度看待煤層氣。事實上這兩個特征很難分開。正是基于煤礦安全的重要意義，國家才對煤層氣行業(yè)給予如此大的支持力度。也正是因為煤層氣的清潔能源屬性，才能形成一個從社會、環(huán)境到企業(yè)都有利可圖的產(chǎn)業(yè)。
