  In the biogas pretreatment stage, the generator set needs to finely purify the original biogas. The main component of biogas is methane, which usually contains carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, water, and trace impurities. Among them, hydrogen sulfide is corrosive, and moisture may cause scaling in the combustion chamber, so the pretreatment step is crucial. The system removes hydrogen sulfide through a desulfurization device, removes moisture using desiccants or condensation methods, and increases methane concentration through pressure swing adsorption or membrane separation technology to stabilize the calorific value of biogas in the range of 2000 to 5000 kcal/m3, ensuring combustion stability.

  Entering the combustion process, the generator set adopts lean combustion technology to adapt to the characteristics of biogas. In an internal combustion engine, the premixed gas is precisely proportioned through an electronic throttle and ignited by a spark plug at the end of the compression stroke. Compared to traditional fuel engines, its compression ratio is usually adjusted to 10:1 to 12:1 to accommodate the lower octane rating of biogas. The high-temperature and high-pressure gas generated by combustion drives the piston downwards, and converts linear motion into rotational mechanical energy through the crank connecting rod mechanism. For large units, a gas turbine scheme may be used, which compresses air to high pressure using a compressor, mixes and explodes with biogas in the combustion chamber, and drives the turbine to rotate at high speed, with an efficiency of up to 35% to 40%.

To cope with fluctuations in biogas flow, the system is usually equipped with energy storage devices such as flywheels or supercapacitors, which can respond to sudden load changes in a short period of time to ensure stable power quality. In addition, the waste heat recovery system converts the heat from cylinder liner water and exhaust gas waste heat into hot water or steam through a heat exchanger, which can be used for heating or other processes, increasing the comprehensive energy utilization rate to over 80%.
